How to challenge a license suspension

by Administrator 6. November 2009 03:19

When individuals are convicted of drunk driving-related charge, they may receive a license suspension. When this occurs, many individuals do not try to contest the suspension.

However, in most cases, individuals have the legal right to contest the suspension. In order to do, they must request a hearing with the Department of Public Safety. During this hearing, individuals have the opportunity to challenge the  suspension and offer arguments in favor of their cause.

The long-run implications of a drunk driving conviction

by Administrator 29. October 2009 23:51

A drunk driving conviction can result in jail time, fines, and license suspension. However, even after the time is served, the fine is paid, and the license is reinstated, a drunk driving conviction can still plague a person's livelihood.

Oftentimes the offense will stay on a driver's record forever, or at least until it is expunged. This means that the conviction will be available to employers, credit bureaus, and government agencies.

The steps following a drunk driving arrest

by Administrator 29. October 2009 23:38

Whenever people are arrested for drunk driving, they generally go to court and may face sentencing. If the person is convicted of drunk driving, the crime is often classified as a misdemeanor.

However, if an injury or death is involved in the accident, the crime may be a felony and could result in significant jail time. In order to avoid such a conviction, a lawyer may try to challenge the charge in court in a number of ways.

If you or anyone you know has been convicted of a drunk driving offense, contact the Las Vegas DUI attorneys of William, Palmer, & Associates, P.C., at 702-888-2222.

How alcohol affects the brain

by Administrator 23. October 2009 03:10

Alcohol affects the body by altering brain chemistry. The brain is altered by a series of neurotransmitters, which act as chemical messengers that deliver signals throughout the body.

These signals trigger changes in a person's behavior and emotion, two signs that people typically associate with drunkenness. As opposed to stimulants like caffeine, alcohol triggers transmitters that cause the body to become sluggish.

Many people are surprised to learn that alcohol is a depressant for the body because of the positive feelings they sometimes associate with alcohol. These positive feelings, however, are likely the result of an increased level of dopamine.

Does mixing alcohol diminish its effect?

by Administrator 22. October 2009 07:29

One common myth about alcohol is that mixing alcohol with other beverages will decrease its impact on the body. The belief is based on many misconceptions, including that other liquids help break down alcohol in the body.

While other liquids may have some effects on the alcohol, the effect will likely be insignificant. What ultimately matters is the alcohol content in the drink.

For instance, a person who drinks a 1.5-ounce shot will likely feel the same effect as drinking a mixed drink with 1.5 ounces of the same alcohol. Differences in effect may result, however, from how quickly each drink is consumed.

The dangers of alcohol poisoning

by Administrator 15. October 2009 03:55

When people drink excessive amounts of alcohol in a short period of time, one of the common dangers is alcohol poisoning. Determining whether someone has alcohol poisoning, however, can be difficult.

People with alocohol poisoning typically show a number of signs, including vomiting, confusion, coldness, or unconsciousness. These signs are also common among people who are simply drunk. Regardless, if someone begins to show these signs, then the best precaution is to call a medical official for treatment.

People who experience alcohol poisoning and attempt to drive have a higher chance of being charged with DUI. If you have been charged with a drunk driving crime, contact the Las Vegas DUI lawyers of William Palmer & Associates, P.C., at 702-888-2222.
