While driving drunk in Las Vegas could mean jail time and other related penalties, it has carried an even higher cost in China until recently. In some past cases of drunk driving in China, convicted offenders have received the death penalty.
However, an appeals court in China recently overturned a death penalty verdict of a 30-year-old woman. The woman was convicted of drunk driving after killing four people in a drunk driving accident last December.
Instead of the harsh penalty, the woman received life in prison. The ruling may signal a reversal in Chinese policy toward drunk driving convictions.
